Medicare is issuing new identification cards. The new cards no longer use a social security, but use an 11 character Medicare identification instead. Medicare is sending the cards to the address currently on file with the Social Security Administration.

 

Medicare will NOT call the beneficiary regarding the new card.

 

Scammers are calling Medicare beneficiaries, claiming CMS needs the social security number from the current card in order to send the new one, or a fee needs to be paid in order to get the new card, and so on. CMS already has your social security number, and no fees need to be paid. Should you receive such a call, hang up.
